Summer Children's Workshop

Footlite Musicals will conduct its annual Summer Children's Workshop, directed by actress Katie Sellars, for three weeks from June 2-June 20, at the Hedback Community Theater, 1847 North Alabama Street, Indianapolis. The workshop is open to children ages 6 to 12, and will culminate in a performance of "Willy Wonka, Jr." at 7 p.m. on June 20.

The workshop sessions will be held on Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On the last day of the workshop, the session will run from 9 a.m. to the 7 p.m. performance time, with a pizza dinner provided to the children that day only.

The workshop will focus on creative performances, costuming, set construction, music and dance. Students will be given a half-hour lunch break and will be expected to provide their own lunches.

"Willy Wonka, Jr." is based on the classic family film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" with music by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse and lyrics by Newley. The book for the musical is adapted by Bricusse and Tim McDonald.

Both the stage musical and the movie are based on Roald Dahl's book "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" about a world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir. "Willy Wonka, Jr." features songs from the movie such as "The Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination" along with several new songs specifically written for the stage.

The cost of the workshop is $150 per child. Registration and a meet-and-greet will be held Thursday, May 29, at 6:00 p.m. at the theatre.

To sign up for this year's workshop or for more information, please contact Katie Sellars at katiesell...@yahoo.com or at (317) 332-9662 or Footlite at footl...@footlite.org or (317) 926-6630.
