Hedback to the Future for Hedback Community Arts Center, home of Footlite Musicals and Epilogue Players in Herron-Morton

History & Current Operations

The north building of the Hedback Community Arts Center was built in 1896 and is classified as a contributing building to the Herron-Morton Place Historic District. Since 1984, it has been the home of Epilogue Players, which presents six comedy, drama, or musical shows a year.

The south building was built in 1921 and given to Footlite Musicals in 1974. Footlite Musicals currently presents eight shows a year--four mainstage productions, a smaller cabaret show, a show for high school students, one for college-age students, and a summer workshop for children ages 6 to 12.

The Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society performs a half-hour concert before most of these productions. Dance Magic Performing Arts, The Players, and others regularly use the facilities for their performances.

All this activity over a number of years means that many of you have fond memories of experiences in one or both performance spaces.

The neighbors and those who regularly use the facility want us to continue to house excellent music, theatre and dance, and to provide education and entertainment for the entire metropolitan region, the area we serve. We plan to do that from renovated facilities.

Many exciting changes are already occurring here. In addition to a revitalized Development Committee rekindling various fundraising and outreach functions, a new Junior Board has raised the funds for "Footlite Facelift"-- to paint the outside of the south building. A new Advisory Board will assist the Footlite Board. Lobby painting and new wiring, lighting and sound equipment in the north building are just some of the other improvements.

The best part is that these projects are just the beginning.

We are initiating a campaign to enhance these performance spaces and buildings. This may be the first time many of you have been asked to give to a building fund for Hedback Community Arts Center. This is a great opportunity. If you have given in the past, we sincerely thank you for your support and hope that you will continue to invest as we "Hedback to the Future." We expect to raise a great deal of money; donations from people like you will help us reach that goal!

About this Campaign

Hedback to the Future is to raise funds from our in-house supporters and neighbors before going to businesses, individuals, and foundations.

The funds raised will go into a separate Building Fund to be used specifically for our needs.
